Combining renewable energy and energy storage technologies can allow remote communities to realize significant economic, environmental, and social benefits. Load Leveling can optimize the production and operation of the grid's existing resources. Electricity can be stored and injected back into the grid when necessary. Ramping services enable generation assets to increase their electricity production quickly over a short period of time. As both generation and demand fluctuate throughout the day, fast responding resources are needed to ensure system balance. Energy storage technologies are highly flexible and capable of quickly responding to generation command signals. Energy storage resources typically have incredibly high ramp rates, in many cases hundreds of times faster than the ramp rates achievable with traditional generation.

Ancillary services like frequency regulation are essential to the reliable transmission of energy across electricity grids. NRStor’s 2MW Minto Flywheel System will deliver frequency regulation service in 2014. Fast responding energy storage technologies can react almost instantly to withdraw or inject electricity in response to changes in system frequency.

Power quality issues can lead to prolonged outages and facility downtime, damaged equipment, and significant annual costs.

To stabilize voltage sags and improve power quality, an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system provides emergency power and ride through capabilities to your system. Typically, UPS systems provide up to 60 seconds of energy storage.
